1. Do not eat food that is too hot, too cold or too dry. It should not be overcooked. Ghee or butter should be included to make it soft. Too much oil should not be used in case of people with sedentary lifestyle.

2. Frequent meals should be taken, each time in small amounts. Take meals only after digestion of the previous meals to avoid acid eructation.

3. Do not eat food in hurry because this does not allow enough time for the normal secretion of enzymes and affects the process of digestion.

4. Avoid excessive spicy and heavy foods, chocolate desserts, hamburgers and fried foods.

5. Smoking and chewing tobacco weaken the nervous system. The mucous membrane of the stomach and intestine stop functioning properly. So avoid such habits.

6. Stress and strain also cause acidity especially in students during their examinations. Due to stress the vagus nerve is inhibited leading to formation of hydrochloric acid. Therefore students have an increased influence of acid formation during examination days due to stress. Thus their meals should be more carefully monitored during those days.

7. Suppressing the natural urge to defecate, urinate, pass flatus and belching are all responsible for peptic ulcer. Urgent work, traveling in a bus and many other causes force a person to suppress his natural urges. Therefore it is important to form a habit of defecation after getting up in the morning.

4. Take 3 to 5 grams of the powder of chebulic myrobalan or harad along with warm water to get relief from constipation.

5. Take equal amounts of turmeric powder and black salt along with warm water after meals. This is very useful remedy for constipation and gas problems.

6. Suppression of natural urge of passing stools despite pressure is a very common cause of constipation. So never suppress the natural urge.

7. Foods rich in high fiber such as drumstick, carrot, dry peas and spinach are helpful in preventing constipation.

8. Highly spicy food hampers the digestive system. So avoid such foods.

9. Make thin bread (chapatti) of wheat (two parts) and roasted black gram powder (one part), along with their husk for increased fiber, ensuring normal defecation.

10. Do not indulge in some other activities like watching television while having food. This will disturb your digestion process.

11. Indigestion sometimes leads to constipation and other digestive problems. Therefore, chew your meal slowly to digest properly.

12. Walk for at least 30 minutes both morning and evening. Also involve in physical activities and use stairs instead of lifts.

13. Sit in vajrasana for a short period in the beginning. Start by sitting on your heels. Slowly move your legs sideways, until your bottom is resting on the floor. Put your hands on your knees. This asana is good for people suffering from constipation and hemorrhoids (piles). It ensures good digestion.

10 Simple Home Remedies for Hypertension (High Blood Pressure)

3. Include amla, apple, lemon, papaya, watermelon, carrot, onion, garlic, tomato, and green vegetables in your diet. Indian gooseberry (amla) taken along with milk daily helps in lowering blood pressure.

4. Keep fast once a week or in 15 days. This helps in normalizing the digestive system, but if you feel weak and tired, fasting should not be done.

5. Banana, litchi, mango, orange, pomegranate, coconut, pineapple, grapes and raisins are beneficial for healthy heart but guava, jackfruit and tamarind are harmful for the heart.

6. Take wheat and gram flour in equal quantities and eat chapatti made from this flour.

7. Radish, drumstick, cabbage, pumpkin, carrots, tomato, bitter, gourd, spinach, cucumber, spearmint and coriander leaves are good for the heart patient.

8. Cauliflower, brinjal, lady’s finger and mustard leaves are harmful for the heart. Mustard leaves have less fiber content and more protein, so the heart has to work more by supplying more blood to digest these leaves, putting pressure on the heart.

9. Take isabgul in curd. You will feel satisfied after taking 1-2 teaspoons of isabgul in curd which increases the fibrous content of the diet.

10. Do not take water in between food. This hampers digestion.
